Heat Rash In Babies: What To Do?
Babies are particularly prone to heat rash. This creates heat pimples or heat frizzles, which are harmless but can lead to itching.
The rash is not contagious, but it does cause reddened skin, pimples, pustules, and itching. Usually these symptoms are not painful. They only indicate that the toddler is too warm. It can also make it tearful and restless.
This can also happen, for example, if the baby is dressed too warmly or if the clothing is not made of natural materials that allow the skin to breathe. You should therefore choose light clothing made of cotton, especially in summer.
Home remedies for heat rash in babies
Cassava starch
Grind a cassava root and then mix the powder with water. Then pour through a sieve and put the mixture in the sun for a few days.
Once the water has evaporated, a white powder remains. This is cassava starch that you can apply to delicate baby skin like a powder to soothe the heat rash.
Baking soda
To relieve itching, we recommend bathing your baby in water with baking soda. This can help alleviate the discomfort and prevent your child from scratching.
After the bath, pat your child dry with a soft towel without rubbing the skin. Then, put on loose cotton clothing for the skin to breathe.
cucumber
Cut a fresh cucumber with the skin into slices and then process them in a stand mixer or blender until a homogeneous liquid is formed.
Chill the result for a few minutes, but it shouldn’t be too cold. You can then apply this liquid to the baby’s heat rash.
The cucumber is very refreshing and at the same time helps against itching. Let this home remedy work for a few minutes, then gently rinse it off with water. Repeat as often as necessary.
chamomile
This classic medicinal herb has numerous beneficial properties. Even with a heat rash, chamomile can be very beneficial for caring for baby’s soft skin.
Just make a chamomile tea. You can use tea bags or a teaspoon of the herb for this. Then let the tea cool down, ideally putting it in the fridge for 15 minutes.
Then apply the chamomile tea to the heat rash with some cotton, without applying pressure. You don’t have to wash off the tea anymore.
Aloe vera
Cut open an aloe leaf or buy pure aloe gel from a pharmacy.
If you have aloe vera yourself, mix the gel with boiled water in a blender and then put the result in the refrigerator for 2 days. Apply this home remedy to the skin with cotton wool.
Cornstarch
Cornstarch can also help relieve heat rash in babies. Simply apply it to the affected areas of skin like baby powder.
Marigold
Like chamomile, marigold can also be very beneficial. It is therefore also used in the manufacture of ointments, creams and lotions for skin care.
You can use it to make tea, let it cool, and then make an envelope to place on your baby’s affected skin. You can use this method several times a day.
Another alternative for heat rash in babies
Then we recommend another product that you can make with over-the-counter medicines. It does not contain any ingredients harmful to the baby.
Nevertheless, you should consult your pediatrician before use to prevent possible allergic reactions.
You need the following ingredients:
- 1 tablet of azithromycin
- 5 tablets of prednisone (5 mg)
- 1 calamine zinc lotion
Preparation:
- Pulverize the tablets and mix them with the calamine-zinc lotion.
- Shake everything well so that the tablets dissolve well.
- Then gently clean the affected area of skin and gently apply the mixture with cotton wool.
- Wait a few minutes for the lotion to absorb into the skin. Then you can dress your child in cotton clothes.
- Caution: You shouldn’t go in the sun with your child, otherwise this home remedy could cause skin marks. Therefore, only apply this home remedy in the evening and remove it the next morning before you go out with your child.
