Fatigue In Mothers And Fathers

Fatigue is a byproduct of children

Living with children is a complex task, or at least tiring. However, it seems that child-rearing is not felt the same way by everyone. A recent study of maternal and father fatigue shows  that living with children can be stressful for mothers, but not for fathers.

It seems that the task of looking after children is not performed in the same way by all adults. The effects of this obviously vary between men and women. At least that is what the investigation into fatigue , which was carried out through various telephone surveys, has shown.

The study, developed by the American Academy of Neurology in partnership with the University of South Georgia, interviewed nearly 6,000 people. The result: Having children negatively affects our sleep behavior. This is especially true for women.

A study of living with children that sparked controversy

Both men and women were interviewed in the study. They were asked how many hours they slept, assuming 8 hours is ideal while less than 6 hours is not enough. They were also asked how many days they had felt tired in the past month.

Children often want to sleep in their parents' bed. A factor that can affect parental fatigue.

Basic information was added in order to be able to form socio-demographic groups. Age, income, marital status, body mass index (BMI), exercise habits, work situation and number of children. Those were the relevant factors.

The latter are considered possible causes of sleep disorders. The result, however, was crucial and controversial. The results of the investigation were discussed around the world.

Among the adult women who participated in the research, the only sleep-related factor was the presence of children at home. With each child, the likelihood of reducing rest hours increased by 50%.

“A man who doesn’t know how to be a good father is not a real man.”

Mario Puzo, writer

In this way, the researchers proved that living with children is directly related to the hours of sleep available to women. It also has a strong impact on how often they feel tired. Mothers feel tired for about half a month. A number that decreases when they don’t have children.

On the contrary, it was found that the sleep of the fathers is not influenced by the children. However, according to researchers Tara Haelle and Emily Willingham, the current reality is different. The mothers sleep more than the fathers because they catch up on the sleeping hours during the men’s working hours.

Fatigue – sleep well or sleep badly, that is the question

The happiness of parenting makes us forget all fatigue.

The study concludes that it’s not about who sleeps more or less. It’s about the quality of sleep. So who sleeps better is the question. Some data on the methodology of this controversial study are missing.

According to another study published by Armando, mothers sleep longer. However, one detail to consider is that they rest fragmented. While fathers show growing interest and parental involvement, it is biological reasons that make women more prone to getting up at night.

It is precisely this last aspect, the purely biological one, that would make sense to conclude this study. This would explain why mothers feel more tired than women who sleep the same number of hours.

Sleeping and waking up again and again is not a good recovery. This is repeated several times at night and every night. Because of this, mothers cannot get the restful sleep they desperately need. Hence, there is no way you can ever feel rested.

Since every house is a universe and every family is a world, we would like to know your opinion. What do you think of this study? Do you share the same opinion It is undoubtedly an investigation that will be discussed for a long time.
